Writing Content AI Can Quote
2 min read

AI assistants quote passages that answer a question clearly and come from a source they can trust. The content structure and trust checks look for the habits that make a page easy to quote.
Structure
- One clear H1 that says what the page is about
- At least three H2 or H3 subheadings, so each section can stand on its own
- Some headings phrased as the questions your customers ask - "How much does a wedding cake cost?" - with the answer in the first sentence underneath
- Enough substance: the report gives full marks from about 600 words of main content, and partial marks from about 250
- Key facts, steps, prices and comparisons in lists or tables
Trust and Freshness
- Show who wrote the page or who stands behind it - a byline, and author or publisher in your schema
- Show when the page was published and last updated, and add datePublished and dateModified to your schema. A date within the last year gets full marks
- Link to the primary sources behind your statistics and claims
Metadata
- A page title of 20 to 65 characters that names the topic
- A meta description of 50 to 170 characters that summarises the page
- A canonical URL, Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description and og:image) and a lang attribute on the html element
Answer First
Put the direct answer at the top of each section, then the detail. A sentence that answers the question on its own is the easiest thing for an assistant to quote.
